Preface: I have a love/hate relationship with the words of Paul. I think it important to state up front that I do not agree with anything that Paul writes which is in opposition to the Torah. I do find wisdom in many of his teachings, hence the reason I don’t hesitate to quote his words when they have a firm foundation.
In other words: “I don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”.
The man of Lawlessness
Who is the man of lawlessness spoken of in 2nd Thessalonians 2? Is the answer to this question a prophecy yet to be fulfilled or has the answer to this question been right in front of mankind’s very eyes since it’s inception?
2 Thessalonians 2
As to the coming of our Master Yah’shua Messiah and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to become easily unsettled in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as if the day of YHWH has come.
This warning from Paul to the receivers of the letter is seeking to reassure that they do not fall into the trap of doubt and fear. And reminds the readers not to listen to spirits that go against the teachings they have learned. He asks for patience and endurance during the wait for the return of Yah’shua.
3Let no one deceive you in any way, because the falling away is to come first, and the man of lawlessness is to be revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called Elohim or that is worshipped, so that he sits as Elohim in the Dwelling Place of Elohim, showing himself that he is Elohim.
Paul warns against the many traps the adversary would place before the true believers. He knows that many will be seduced into leaving the true faith, falling prey to false doctrines. Paul also warns of the man of lawlessness who would be coming, a man who would usurp the power of the Almighty and place himself as the Mighty one of all creation.
5Do you not remember that I told you this while I was still with you? 6And now you know what restrains, for him to be revealed in his time. 7For the secret of lawlessness is already at work – only until he who now restrains comes out of the midst.
Paul reminds the readers that he had previously forewarned of the coming of the man of lawlessness and the falling away of the believers who would be led astray by the teachings of others. He also warned that the secret or mystery of lawlessness was already creeping into the flock, working to destroy and separate the true believers. He lets the readers know that this mystery of lawlessness must continue until the One who is sent to expose its evil nature ends its wicked influence at the proper time.
8And then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Master shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth and bring to naught with the manifestation of His coming.
The lawless one will be revealed by Yah'shua at his coming, he will be exposed as the deceiver that he is. By the words that come from the mouth of Yah'shua, the deceiver will be consumed. The deception will cease and the people will know that they have been deceived.
9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, 10and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order for them to be saved.
The lawless one acts according to the ways of the adversary, having the rebellious nature of his creator. He has the power to deceive the many with his status as a spiritual leader who has no equal. He performs miraculous signs and awes his believers. He uses a mask of love and kindness to hide his true nature. The masses believe and worship this man of lawlessness, this man who does not keep the commands of the Eternal, thus earning him the title of the lawless one. He causes the people of the world to follow his rebellious nature by appealing to the sinful nature of mankind.
11And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood, 12in order that all should be judged who did not believe the truth, but have delighted in the unrighteousness. Man has a choice; to choose right from wrong, tov from rah, darkness from light. Those who choose the doctrine of the lawless have their minds eyes closed to the truth because they have chosen lust over the Creators way of love.
13But we ought to give thanks to Elohim always for you, brothers, beloved by the Master, because Elohim from the beginning chose you to be saved – in set-apartness of Spirit, and belief in the truth – 14unto which He called you by our Good News, for the obtaining of the esteem of our Master Yah’shua Messiah.
Do we now know who this man of lawlessness is? This spiritual leader who has raised himself above the Most High? If we know who this man is, do we also know what the mystery of lawlessness is that he has spread?
Could this man of lawlessness be the man who is worshiped as G_d, and above G_d by many people? This man who spread lawlessness through his teaching that the Commands of the Most High have been done away? Is this a real man, or actually a fictional creation of the adversary? A fictional man who teaches a doctrine that directly opposes the teachings of Yah’shua? Don’t this mans doctrines tickle the ear and appeal to the lustful nature of the people of the Earth?
Is this fictional man the one and only messiah that is worshiped as G_d, who has displaced the honor and reverence due to the one true Mighty One? The messiah who teaches that the Eternal Creators Commands have been done away? The spiritual leader who has the masses believing that his forgiving nature will cover any and all sins once they confirm that he is their G_d. The same deceiver who has replaced the Commanded days of observance with counterfeits like himself? Is this the man that has been deceiving mankind since the time shortly after the death of Yah'shua? The same imposter who has set up his own religion that is based on the desires of the worshipers instead of the desires of the Almighty Creator?
The secret of lawlessness has prevailed to this day in the religion of Christianity. The religion that teaches in opposition to what Yah’shua and the Scriptures teach. The religion that tickles the ear and deceives the many.
