The Truth and consequences about worshiping other Mighty Ones.
What we do
on Earth will need to be accounted for when man is disciplined for not
listening to our Father.
When we
commit wrongs and have been forewarned, this lumps coals upon us in the coming
judgment.
Lets look at a few Truths and consequences, may they help us to make the right decisions.
Truth:
the children of Yisrael did evil in the eyes of YHWH, and served the
Ba'als, and forsook
YHWH Elohim of theirfathers, who had brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, and went after
other mighty ones, of the
mighty ones of the people who
were all around them, and they bowed down to them, and
provoked YHWH. So they forsook YHWH and served Ba'al and the Ashtoreths. (Judges 2:11-13)
Consequences:
And
the displeasure of YHWH burned against Yisrael. Therefore He gave
them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled
them. And He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, and they
were unable to stand before
their enemies any longer. Wherever they went out, the hand
of YHWH was against them for evil, as YHWH had spoken, and as YHWH had sworn
to them. And they were
distressed greatly. Then YHWH raised up rulers
who saved them from the hand
of those who plundered them. However, they did not listen to
their rulers either, but went whoring after
other mighty ones, and bowed
down to them. They soon
turned aside from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commands of YHWH they did not do so. And when
YHWH raised up rulers for them, YHWH was with the ruler and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the ruler, for YHWH had compassion on their
groaning because of those who oppressed them and crushed them. And it
came to be, when the ruler was dead, that
they would turn back and do more corruptly than their fathers, to
go after other mighty ones, to serve them and
bow down to them. They did
not refrain from their
practices and from their stubborn way. And the
displeasure of YHWH burned against Yisrael, and He said, Because
this nation has transgressed My
covenant that I commanded their fathers, and has
not obeyed My voice, I also
shall no longer drive out before them any
of the nations which Yehoshua left when he died, (Judges
2:14-22)
Truth:
And Shelomoh went after
Ashtoreth the
mighty one of the
Tsidonians, and after
Milkom the abomination
of the Ammonites. Thus Shelomoh did evil in the eyes of YHWH, and did not follow YHWH completely, like his father
Dawid. 7Then Shelomoh built a high place
for Kemosh the abomination of Moab, on the
hill that is east of
Yerushalayim, and for Molek the
abomination of the children of Ammon. And so he did for all his foreign wives, who
burned incense and slaughtered
to their mighty ones. (1Kings 11:5-9)
Consequences:
Therefore
YHWH was enraged with Shelomoh, because his heart had
turned away from YHWH Elohim of
Yisrael, who had appeared to him
twice, and had commanded him
concerning this word, not to
go after other mighty ones.
But he did not
guard what YHWH had commanded. And YHWH said to
Shelomoh, Because you have done this, and have not guarded
My covenant and My laws, which I have commanded you, I shall certainly tear the reign
away from you and give it to
your servant. Only, I
do not do it in your days, for the sake of your father
Dawid. Out of the hand of your son I shall tear it. Only, I shall not tear away all the reign but
give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant
Dawid, and for the sake of Yerushalayim which I have
chosen. (1Kings 11:5-9)
Truth:
Because
they have forsaken Me, and bow themselves to Ashtoreth the
mighty one of the
Tsidonians, to Kemosh the
mighty one of the
Moabites, and to Milkom
the mighty one of the children of Ammon, and have not
walked in My ways to do what is right in My eyes, and
My laws and My right-rulings, as did his father
Dawid. (1Kings 11:33)
Consequences:
But I do not
take all the reign out of his hand, because
I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the
sake of My servant Dawid, whom I
chose because he guarded My commands and My laws. And I shall take the reign out
of his sons hand
and give it to you,
the ten tribes. And to his son I give one tribe, so that My
servant Dawid shall always have a lamp before Me in Yerushalayim, the city
which I have chosen for Myself, to put My Name there. So I take you, and you shall reign over all
that your being desires, and you shall be sovereign
over Yisrael. And it shall be, if you obey all that I
command you, and shall walk in My ways, and do what is right in My eyes, to guard My
laws and My commands,
as My servant Dawid
did, then I shall be with you and build for you a
steadfast house, as I built for Dawid, and
shall give Yisrael to you. And
because of this I humble the seed of Dawid, but not
forever. And Shelomoh sought to kill Yarob'am, but Yarob'am rose up and fled
to Mitsrayim, to Shishaq sovereign of
Mitsrayim, and was in Mitsrayim
until the death of Shelomoh.
(1Kings 11:33-41)
Truth:
And he answered,
I have not disturbed Yisrael, but you and
your fathers house, in that you have forsaken the
commands of YHWH, and you have followed the
Ba'als. And now, send and gather all Yisrael to me on Mount Karmel, the four hundred and
fifty prophets of Ba'al, and the four
hundred prophets of Asherah, who
eat at Izebels table. Ahab then sent for all the
children of Yisrael, and
gathered the prophets on
Mount Karmel. And Eliyahu
came to all the people, and
said, How long would you keep hopping
between two opinions? If
YHWH is Elohim, follow Him;
and if Ba'al, follow him.
But the people answered him not a word. (1Kings 18:18-22)
Consequences:
And when Ahab
reported to Izebel all that Eliyahu had
done, also how he slew all the prophets with the
sword, Izebel sent a
messenger to Eliyahu, saying, So let the mighty ones do to me, and
more also, if I do not make your life as the life of
one of them by tomorrow about this time.
(1Kings 19:1-2)
Truth:
And Moab
revolted against Yisrael after the death of Ahab. And Ahazyah fell
through the lattice of his upper
room in Shomeron, and
was injured, and sent
messengers and said to them,
Go, inquire of Ba'al-Zebub,
the mighty one of Eqron,
if I shall recover from this
injury. 3But a messenger of
YHWH spoke to Eliyah
the Tishbite, Rise up, go up to
meet the messengers of the
sovereign of Shomeron, and say to them, Is
it because there is no Elohim in Yisrael that you are
going to inquire
of Ba'al-Zebub, the
mighty one of Eqron? (2Kings
1:1-3)
Consequences:
And
the Messenger of YHWH said
to Eliyahu, Go down with
him; do not be afraid of
him. So he rose up and went down with him to the sovereign, and
spoke to him, Thus said YHWH, Because you have
sent messengers to inquire of Ba'al-Zebub, the mighty one of Eqron,
is it because there is no Elohim in Yisrael to inquire
of His word? Therefore you are not going to get out of
the bed to which you have gone
up, for you shall certainly
die. And he died, according to the word of YHWH which
Eliyahu had spoken. And Yehoram reigned in his place, in the second
year of Yehoram son of Yehoshaphat sovereign of
Yehudah, for he had no son. (2Kings
1:15-17)
Truth:
But Yehu did not
guard to walk in the Torah of YHWH Elohim of
Yisrael with all his heart. For he
did not turn away from the
sins of Yarob'am, who
had made Yisrael sin.
(2Kings 10:31)
Consequences:
In those
days YHWH began to cut off some in Yisrael. And Hazael smote them throughout
all the border of Yisrael, from the Yarden
to the sun-rising: all the
land of Gil'ad the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and
the Menashshehites from Aro'er,
which is by the wadi Arnon, including Gil'ad and
Bashan. (2Kings 10:32-33)
Truth:
And
the sovereign of Ashshur
went through all the
land, and went up to Shomeron and besieged it for three years. In
the ninth year of Hoshea, the sovereign of Ashshur
captured Shomeron and exiled Yisrael
to Ashshur, and settled them in Halah and Habor, the River of Gozan,
and in the cities of the Medes. (2Kings
17:5-6)
Consequences:
7Now this came to be because the children of Yisrael had sinned against
YHWH their Elohim who
had brought them up out
of the land of Mitsrayim, from under
the hand of
Pharaoh sovereign
of Mitsrayim and feared other
mighty ones, and walked in the laws of the gentiles
whom YHWH had dispossessed from before the children of Yisrael, and of the sovereigns
of Yisrael that they had made. And the
children of Yisrael secretly did
against YHWH their Elohim matters that were not right, and they built
for them- selves high places in all their
cities, from watchtower unto the walled city, and set up for themselves pillars
and Asherim on every
high hill and under every green tree, and burned incense there
on all the high places, like the
gentiles whom YHWH had removed from their presence. And they
did evil matters to provoke YHWH, and served the idols, of which YHWH had said to them, Do not do this. 13And YHWH warned Yisrael and Yehudah, through all of His prophets, and every
seer, saying, Turn back from your evil ways,
and guard My commands and My laws, according to all the Torah which I commanded your fathers, and which
I sent to you by My servants the prophets. But they did not listen and
hardened their necks, like the necks of their
fathers, who did not put their
trust in YHWH their Elohim, and rejected His laws and His covenant that
He had made with their fathers, and
His witnesses which He
had witnessed against
them, and went after worthlessness, and became worthless, and after the gentiles
who were all around
them, of whom YHWH had
commanded them not to do like them. And they left all the
commands of YHWH their Elohim, and
made for themselves a moulded image, two calves, and made an Asherah
and bowed themselves to all the host of the heavens, and served Ba'al, and
caused their sons and daughters to pass through the
fire, and practised divination and sorcery, and sold
themselves to do evil in the eyes of YHWH, to provoke Him. So YHWH was very
enraged with Yisrael, and
removed them from His presence none was
left but the tribe of Yehudah alone. Yehudah, also, did not guard the
commands of YHWH their Elohim,
but walked in the laws of Yisrael which they
made. And YHWH rejected
all the seed of Yisrael, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until
He had cast them out from His presence. For He tore Yisrael from the house of Dawid,
and they made Yarob'am son of Nebat sovereign. And Yarob'am
drove Yisrael from following
YHWH, and made them commit a great sin. And the children
of Yisrael walked in all the sins of
Yarob'am which he did. They
did not turn away from them, until YHWH removed
Yisrael from His presence, as
He spoke by all His servants the prophets. So Yisrael
was exiled from their land to Ashshur, as it is to
this day. And the sovereign of Ashshur brought people from Babel, and from Kuthah, and from Awwa, and
from Hamath, and Sepharwayim, and placed
them in the cities
of Shomeron instead of the children of Yisrael.
And they took possession of Shomeron and dwelt in its cities. And it
came to be, at the beginning of their dwelling there,
that they did not fear YHWH, and
YHWH sent lions among them, which kept on slaying among them. And
they spoke to the sovereign
of Ashshur, saying, The nations whom you
have removed and placed in the
cities of Shomeron do not know the
right-ruling of the Elohim of the
land. And He has sent lions
among them, and see, they are slaying among them
because they do not know the right-ruling of the
Elohim of the land. And the
sovereign of Ashshur commanded, saying, Send one of the
priests whom you exiled from there, to go there.
Let him go and dwell there,
and let him teach them the right-ruling
of the Elohim of the land. And
one of the priests whom they had exiled
from Shomeron came and
dwelt in Beyth El, and taught them how to
fear YHWH. But every nation was making mighty ones of its own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Shomeronites had
made, every nation in the cities where they dwelt. And the men of Babel made
Sukkoth Benoth, and the men of Kuth made Nergal,
and the men of Hamath made Ashima, and
the Awwites made Nibhaz
and Tartaq. And the
Sepharwites burned their children
in fire to
Adrammelek and Anammelek,
the mighty ones of Sepharim. They also feared YHWH, and from every class they
made for themselves priests of the high places, who offered for
them in the house of the high places. They were fearing YHWH, and they were serving their own mighty ones, according to the ruling of the nations
from among whom they had been exiled. To this day they are doing according to the
former rulings: they are not fearing
YHWH, nor do they follow their laws or
their right-rulings, or the
Torah and command which YHWH had
commanded the children of Ya'aqob, whose
name He made Yisrael, with whom YHWH had made a covenant and
commanded them, saying, Do
not fear other mighty ones, nor bow down
to them nor serve them nor slaughter to them; but YHWH, who brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim with great power
and with an outstretched arm,
Him you shall fear, and to Him you
shall bow yourselves, and to Him you shall slaughter. And guard to do forever the laws, and the
right-rulings, and the Torah, and the
command which He wrote for you. And do not fear other mighty ones. And do not
forget the covenant that I have made with you, and do
not fear other mighty ones. But
fear YHWH your Elohim, so that He delivers you from the hand of all your enemies. And they did not obey, but did
according to their former ruling. So these nations were fearing YHWH, and served
their carved images, both
their children and their
childrens children. As their fathers
did, they are doing to this day. (2Kings
17:7-41)
Truth:
And when we burned incense to
the sovereigness of the
heavens and poured out drink
offerings to her, did we make cakes for her, to idolize her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our
husbands? (Jer. 44:17-18)
Consequences:
And YHWH could
no longer bear it, because of the evil
of your deeds and because of the abominations which you
did. Therefore your land is a ruin, an object of astonishment, a curse, and without
an inhabitant, as it is this day. Because you have burned incense and because
you have sinned against YHWH, and did not obey the voice of YHWH or walk in His Torah, in His laws or in His witnesses, therefore this evil did befall you, as at this day. (Jer. 44:22-23)
