The Prophet

Who is the prophet Moses spoke of in Deuteronomy 18? In this article we will show from a variety of witnesses who "The Prophet" is.

Luke 24
15And it came to be, as they were talking and reasoning, that Yah’shua Himself drew near and went with them. 16But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. 17And He said to them, “What are these words you are exchanging with each other as you are walking – and you are sad?” 18And the one whose name was Qleophas answering, said to Him, “Are You the lone visitor in Yerushalayim who does not know what took place in it these days?” 19And He said to them, “What?” And they said to Him, “Concerning Yah’shua of Natsareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before Elohim and all the people, 25And He said to them, “O thoughtless ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26“Was it not necessary for the Messiah to suffer these and to enter into His esteem?” 27And beginning at Mosheh and all the Prophets, He was explaining to them in all the Scriptures the matters concerning Himself.

Here in the words of one of Mashiach’s followers Qleophas, in the presence of another follower, they witness to a man whom they do not know, about Mashiach Yah’shua. They refer to Mashiach as a Prophet. Yah’shua does not correct them or chastise them for referring to him by this title. Certainly this means the title is fitting.

Acts 3
18“But this is how Elohim has filled what He had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that His Messiah was to suffer. 19“Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master, 20and that He sends Yah’shua Messiah, preappointed for you, 21whom heaven needs to receive until the times of restoration of all matters, of which Elohim spoke through the mouth of all His set-apart prophets since of old. 22“For Mosheh truly said to the fathers, YHWH your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear according to all matters, whatever He says to you. 23‘And it shall be that every being who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.

From the mouth of Peter, in the presence of Yohanan, YHWH Almighty has raised up Yah’shua Mashiach the Prophet.

Acts 7
37“This is the Mosheh who said to the children of Yisra’el, ‘YHWH your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.’

And from the mouth of Stephen to the chief leaders of Yahudah, quoting Moses, proclaiming that they had killed Yah’shua the prophet sent from the Eternal.

Matthew 21
9And the crowds who went before and those who followed cried out, saying, “Hoshia-na to the Son of Dawid! Blessed is He who is coming in the Name of YHWH! Hoshia-na in the highest!” 10And as He entered into Yerushalayim, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11And the crowds said, This is Yah’shua, the prophet from Natsareth of Galil.

The crowds which went before and with Mashiach proclaimed to those who asked “this is the prophet from Natsareth” They are not rebuked for their proclamation.

Matthew 13
53And it came to be, when Yah’shua had ended these parables, that He left there. 54And when  He had  come  to  His  own country, He taught them in their congregation, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this One get this wisdom and miracles? 55“Is this not the son of the carpenter? Is not His mother called Miryam? AndHis brothers Ya'aqob and Yoseph and Shim'on and Yehudah? 56“And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this One get all this?” 57And they stumbled at Him. But Yah’shua said to them, “A prophet is not unappreciated except in his own country and in his own house.” 58And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Those Mashiach lived among, marveled at the works he did. Obviously he did not have these gifts while living among them. In his own words Yah’shua calls himself a prophet.

Dueteronomy 18
15“This is the Mosheh who said to the children of Yisra’el, ‘YHWH your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.’

18‘I shall raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers. And I shall put My Words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19‘And it shall be, the man who does not listen to My Words which He speaks in My Name, I require it of him.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt Yah’shua Mashiach fulfilled the prophesied role of the promised prophet who would speak the words of the Father. Witnessed in the Apostolic writings by the actions of Peter, Stephen, Cleophas, crowds of followers and witnesses, as well as Yah’shua HaMashiach himself.

Joh 1:45
Philip found Nethanĕ’l and said to him, “We have found Him whom Mosheh wrote of in the Torah, and the prophets: Yah'shua of Natsareth – the son of Yosĕph.”
