The Authority of Yahshua
In this study we
will define when Yahshua received his authority.
Did he receive his authority upon birth, at his immersion, or some other time? Lets find out….
Luk 1:31
“And see, you shall conceive in your womb, and shall give birth to a Son, and
call His Name Yah’shua. 32 “He shall be great,
and shall be called the Son of the Most High.
And YHWH Elohim shall give Him the throne of
His father Dawiḏ. 33 “And He shall
reign over the house of Yaʽaqoḇ forever, and there shall be no end to His reign.”
In these verses describing the soon coming child
Yah’shua. Miriam is told that her child would be great and would be given
the throne of David and the rule over the people of Isra’El forever; a gift of
the Eternal. Was he given this authority at his birth? It is not stated or
insinuated that he received it upon his conception.
In the following years we are given scant information of
Yahshua's youthful days. What we are shown does not hint that the authority
has been granted. And would not be likely due to his age.
The next phase of Yahshua's life begins at his immersion
by Yochanan the immerser.
Mat 3:13
Then Yah’shua came from Galil to Yoḥanan at the Yardĕn to be
immersed by him. 14 But Yoḥanan was hindering Him, saying, “I
need to be immersed by You, and You come to me?” 15 But Yah’shua answering, said to him, “Permit it now, for thus
it is fitting for us to fill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him. 16 And having been immersed, Yah’shua went up immediately from
the water, and see, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of Elohim
descending like a dove and coming upon Him, 17 and see, a voice out of the heavens,
saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight.”
Luk 24:19 And He said to them, “What?” And
they said to Him, “Concerning Yah’shua of Natsareth,
who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before
Elohim and all the people, 20
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to
death, and impaled Him. 21 “We, however, were expecting that it was He who was going to
redeem Yisra’ĕl. But besides all this, today is the third
day since these matters took place. 22 “But
certain women of ours, who arrived at the tomb early, also astonished us, 23 when they did not find His body, they came saying
that they had also seen a vision of messengers who said He was alive. 24 “And some of those with us went to the tomb and
found it, as also the women had said, but they did not see Him.” 25 And He said to
them, “O thoughtless ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the
prophets have spoken! 26 “Was it not necessary for the Messiah to suffer these
and to enter into His esteem?” 27
And beginning at Mosheh and all the Prophets, He was explaining to them in all
the Scriptures the matters concerning Himself.
The report that is given
is this: The followers of Yahshua expected him to assume the authority during
his time on earth with them and restore the Kingdom. This obviously did not
happen. Yahshua rebukes them for their lack of faith and instructs them from
the TaNaKh on what must occur before he received the promised authority. We
have a hint that Messiah has attained his esteem. Yah’shua spends forty days
with the followers and then he ascends to the Father. In Acts 1 we are given
this report….
Act 1:6
So when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Master, would
You at this time restore the reign to Yisra’ĕl?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to
know times or seasons which the Father has put in
His own authority. 8 “But you
shall receive power when the Set-apart Spirit has come upon you, and you shall
be My witnesses in Yerushalayim, and in all Yehuḏah and
Shomeron, and to the end of the earth.” 9 And
having said this, while they were looking on, He
was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.
Once again we see that
Yahshua could quite possibly have received the promised authority, though the
time might not have been right for the restoration of the Kingdom. He was taken
up into the clouds and his followers earnestly await his return.
So has he finally been granted the authority?
Lets look to the TaNaKh to see what passages Yahshua might have used to
instruct his followers regarding his receiving his authority.
Dan 7:13
“I was looking in the night visions and saw One like the Son of Enosh, coming with the clouds
of the heavens! And He came to the
Ancient of Days, and they brought Him
near before Him. 14 “And to Him was given rulership and preciousness and a reign,
that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His rule is an
everlasting rule which shall not pass away, and His reign that which shall not
be destroyed.
In this prophetic vision, Yahshua is seen coming with the clouds of heaven. His destination…Not earth, but to the Father! Yahshua is brought before the Father and he is given the promised authority. Is this the only prophetic scripture regarding this? Lets look further…
Zec 3:1
And he showed me Yehoshua the high priest standing before the messenger of
YHWH, and Satan standing at his right hand to be an
adversary to him. 2 And YHWH said to Satan,
“YHWH rebuke you, Satan! YHWH who has chosen Yerushalayim rebuke you! Is this
not a brand plucked from the fire?” 3 And
Yehoshua was dressed in filthy garments, and was standing before the messenger.
4 And He answered and spoke to those who stood
before Him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said,
“See, I have removed your guilt from you,
and shall put costly robes on you.” 5 And I
said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.”
Then they put a clean turban on his head, and they
put garments on him. And the messenger of YHWH stood by. 6 And the messenger of YHWH witnessed to Yehoshua,
saying, 7 “Thus said YHWH of hosts, ‘If you walk in My ways, and if you guard My duty, then you shall also rule My
house, and also guard My courts. And I
shall give you access among these standing here. 8 ‘Now listen, Yehoshua the high priest, you and your
companions who sit before you, for they are men of symbol. For look, I am
bringing forth My Servant – the Branch.
Here we once again see that Yahshua comes before the Father. In this graphic detail we see that Yahshua is dressed in filthy rags, representative of sin. If Yahshua took the sins of the world on himself, he would most assuredly be in need of cleansing. The Father cleanses him, places clean garments upon him, and then grants him the promised authority, which is the rule over his House “The Temple”, and over His Courts “The Kingship over “the Chosen ones”
Don’t
believe that the Yehoshua in this prophecy relates to Yah’shua? Please
read our article entitled “The Branch”.
We earnestly wait for the returning of our King, for he
will come with the authority given to him by the Father. And he will use it to
set the world right, he comes with a sword this time, and will not stop until
the battle has been won.
Mat 24:30 “And then the sign of the Son of Aḏam shall appear in the heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Aḏam coming on the clouds of the heaven with power and much esteem.
Mat 26:64 Yah’shua said to him,
“You have said it. Besides I say to you, from
now you shall see the Son of Aḏam sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds
of the heaven.”
Act 1:10 And as they were gazing into the heaven as He went up, see, two men stood by them dressed in white, 11 who also said, “Men of Galil, why do you stand looking up into the heaven? This same Yah’shua, who was taken up from you into the heaven, shall come in the same way as you saw Him go into the heaven.”
Rev 1:5 and from Yah’shua Messiah, the trustworthy witness, the first-born from the dead, and the ruler of the
sovereigns of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins
in His own blood, 6 and has made us sovereigns
and priests to His Elohim and Father, to Him be esteem and rule forever and
ever. Amĕn. 7 See, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye shall see Him,
even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth shall mourn because
of Him. Yes, Amĕn.

Additional Notes:
In 1st Corinthians we see further details that Yahshua will make the world a place fit for the Father to reside among His people. Messiah will turn the Kingdom over to the Father and take his place as the princely leader.
1Co 15:20
But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, and has
become the first-fruit of those having fallen asleep. 21 For since death is through a man, resurrection of
the dead is also through a Man. 22 For as all
die in Aḏam,
so also all shall be made alive in Messiah. 23
And each in his own order: Messiah the first-fruits, then those who
are of Messiah at His coming,
24
then the end, when He delivers up the reign to
Elohim the Father, when He has brought to naught all rule and
all authority and power. 25 For He has to reign until He has put all enemies under His feet.
26 The last enemy to be brought to naught is
death. 27 For “He has put all under His feet.”
But when He says “all are put under Him,” it is clear that He who put all under Him is excepted.
28 And when all are made subject to Him, then
the Son Himself shall also be subject to Him who
put all under Him, in order that Elohim be all in all.
